It's everywhere, in everything! There's no avoiding the sweet sugary "goodness"
The culprits are soft drinks, low fat foods, cereals and obviously sweet treats.
Consuming too much sugar is detrimental to our health. The maximum amount of sugar us ladies should be consuming shouldn't pass 100 calories, that's easily surpassed by drinking one can of coke. Excess sugar intake can show itself in ways you would never guess, feet inflammation being one of them.
Your body is great at telling you that you're eating too much sugar, so if you experience any of these 8 signs, it's time to quit the sugar. Besides, you're sweet enough :)
1. You're constantly craving sugar
The more you eat, the more you crave. It's fairly addictive stuff, in fact sugar is 8 times more addictive than cocaine!!! It even acts the same way a drug does by giving you a temporary high, followed by a crash, making you want more and more. Leaving aside the cravings, your taste buds adapt to the amount of sugar you're eating, meaning you'll need to eat even more to get the same taste.
2. You're feeling sluggish
If you notice that you continually feel tired and lack energy, you can be sure it is linked to your sugar intake. Stable energy has a lot to do with blood sugar stability and consuming too much sugar will send you on a blood sugar roller coaster. It is important to maintain stable blood sugar levels as too much will not only result in weight gain but it will deplete you of your natural energy and focus.
3. You're having skin breakouts
Excess sugar consumption can show up in your skin in just a matter of days. Acne can very easily break out on anyone sensitive to a spike in insulin from high doses of sugar. If you are having repeated breakouts that treatments aren't fixing, it might be time to look at your diet.
4. You're gaining weight
Sugar does not contain fibre or protein, this means that it won't fill you and so you keep eating more. And the more sugar you eat, the more excess calories you are consuming. Sugar triggers insulin, the hormone that contributes to weight gain. This eventually causes insulin resistance when the body can't react to normal amounts of insulin. Not only is this linked to weight gain, but more seriously, diabetes.
5. You have a bad attitude
So we know the toll sugar can take on our physical health, but what about our mental health? Too much sugar can leave you feeling moodier than usual. A peak in blood sugar, followed by a sudden crash can lead to mood swings and irritability. These extreme changes in blood sugar levels can be a lot worse if you suffer from anxiety.
6. You have more cavities than before?
Have you recently left the dentists chair having more cavities than before? You know what I'm going to say.... CUT BACK THE SUGAR!!! Bacteria in the mouth consumes the sugar you eat, this forms an acid that causes tooth decay. It's not actually the sugar itself that causes tooth decay, but more so the chain of events going on in the mouth that is galvanized by sugar.
7. You have foggy brain... especially after meals
One of the most common symptoms of low blood sugar is brain fog. Too much sugar leads to accelerated rises and falls of blood sugar levels instead of gradual and improper blood sugar control leads to poor cognitive function and increases the risk of cognitive issues and impairment.
8. You think that nothing is sweet enough anymore
Sugar overkill prompts your taste bud tolerance for sweet things to go up, meaning it will take a lot more than it should of the sweet stuff to satisfy your cravings. Cutting back on sugar will lower your tolerance and soon you will be satisfied with less.
The bottom line is we don't need added sugar in our diets. Cut back, you'll feel much more energetic, you won't want to kill people, your brain will feel clearer AND you'll lose a few pounds too! It's not an easy thing to quit, like I said already - sugar is EIGHT TIMES MORE ADDICTIVE THAN COCAINE!!!! But the good new is, a good supplement containing Chromium Yeast & Ceylon Cinnamon once a day will keep those cravings at bay!
