There was a lot to celebrate this weekend! St. Patricks weekend, winning Six Nations, the long weekend. So no doubt you probably overindulged just a little too much and now it’s Monday and not only do you have the fear, but you’re probably feeling a little guilty too. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Over eating, binge drinking and not exercising can leave us feeling sluggish and crappy. So what should you do?
H2O and lots of it!
The first thing you should do in the morning is drink a large glass of water. You can add fresh lemon to make it tastier and to aid your digestion. Eating excess salt and sugar can leave you feeling dehydrated so load up on water. Keep a water bottle with you so you can refill it when you need to.
Brekkie is your BFF!
You might feel tempted to starve yourself the day after the weekend but what you really need to do is have a protein and fibre filled breakfast. It’s not too heavy but will keep you going throughout the day. I recommend scrambled egg with spinach, mushrooms and asparagus served with a cup of Miss Fit Skinny Tea. The tea will help boost your energy levels, while giving you a gentle cleanse.
I know, I know, it’s the last word you want to hear but after a heavy weekend, it’s so important to jump back into your routine. Plus, the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to get back into the swing of things. If you fins it hard to get motivated, just think about how good you’ll feel afterwards with all those endorphins pumping. Even keep it simple by going for a walk. Any level of exercise will help you to feel better and get you back on track.
For lunch you should stick to protein and leafy greens. You can throw in some complex carbs too but stay away from refined carbs as they will cause your blood sugar to spike. Go for brown rice, sweet potatoes and wholemeal bread or wraps. It’s important you eat wholesome, clean meals.
Fibre is your friend!
After a weekend of unhealthy eating and drinking, it’s a good idea to add as much fibre into your meals as possible. It can help you get your digestion back on track and help keep you full in-between meals. Fruits, vegetables, and complex carbs such as sweet potato, brown rice and quinoa are great.
Most importantly, don’t beat yourself up because you had an “indulgent” weekend. It’s all part of life and balance and what is life if you can’t live it and enjoy it. Just remember to take care of your body and it will take care of you.
